My bestie and I met when we were in middle school. My dad was in the US Navy and just finished his tour of duty in the Philippines and got transferred to Japan. I vaguely remembered packing up and flying over, but I distinctly remember meeting Vickie. We were in our temporary housing and my brother and I were watching TV and my mom told us her friend was coming over with her kids. (Turns out this friend was her bestie from way back when.)
My brother and I grunted okay and watched TV until we heard a knock on the door. I heard screeching (that was my mom and Auntie Susan) and this girl came up to me and said “Hi, my name is Vickie. Do you want to color with me?” Gah. It was the sweetest moment. She had a Barbie coloring book and crayons with her. From then on we were inseparable and here we are 28 years later.
From living in different countries after high school, to getting married and having our own kids we remain eternally youthful and silly together. Sure we had periods where we didn’t talk or were annoyed with each other, but we always had this bond. We dream that when our toddlers meet they will also be besties to maintain this family connection.
I thought it would be fun to document a day in New York City with our photographer Victoria Morris to show you guys some cool places to visit while I was there in October.
We started the day at Maman SoHo to have some avocado toast and chai tea for breakfast. Maman mean mother in french, so it was quite appropriate.
Every time we toast we have to look into each other’s eyes or bad luck you know… we kinda lost our shit here trying not to laugh.
Maman has several locations around New York City, but the one in SoHo also has a shop and a space for workshops and events. It’s very french rustic chic.

Window Shopping in SoHo
The next few hours we spent walking in and out of shops in Soho looking at homewares and cookbooks.
Then had a photo shoot in the middle of the street, as you do in New York. This now makes me an official blogger.
After walking around SoHo we past by Astor Place and saw this temporary mural by Chris Uphues in collaboration with Loft. I love the messages painted on the mural the art piece is called 4 sides of GOOD VIBES. It asks you how you feel and all the words are all positive feelings like excited, cute, inspired and unique.
Union Square Greenmarket
This farmers market in the middle of Union Square is a must visit. I got giddy excited seeing east coast produce like these baby speckle pears and baby butternut squash.
Okay, but the bestest find at the market was Full Moonshine. The Apple Pie one is deceptively way too smooth, so I can imagine how dangerous it would be to have it around the house.
We had shots at noon. No biggie.
