Salted Egg Butter - Itlog Na Maalat Butter

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

This Salted Egg Butter is made with just two ingredients. Grated Salted Egg and the best butter you can buy. It goes well on veggies, bread and other baked goods.

    Salted Egg Butter

I love the idea of flavored butter and this combo of Itlog Na Maalat and butter is just so good.

Originally it was made to go with my Bibingka Cornbread Loaf. However it can totally be used on other dishes. It's particularly good spread all over bread when making grilled cheese sandwiches.

    Ingredients

You will just need two ingredients.

Unsalted Butter - Buy the best you can and just leave it on the counter top to get soft, but not too soft. You don't want it to get all melty when you are mixing in the salted egg.

Itlog Na Maalat (Salted Egg) - You will just need half the salted egg. Preferably frozen so that it's easier to grate into the butter.

Stick of butter and frozen salted egg

How To Make Salted Egg Butter

Here are the step by step instructions on how to make it.

    Salted Egg Cut in half

Nestle the whole frozen salted egg on to a paper towel and carefully cut in half. Scoop out one half and use that to grate into the butter. Wrap the other half in foil and freeze to use another time.

    Grating into butter

Use a grater to grate the frozen salted egg into the butter.

    It should look like this.

    Mixing butter and salted egg.

Use a spoon to mix the salted egg into the butter.

    butter in a dish.

Transfer into a small bowl or butter dish.

    butter in a dish.

Grate any leftover salted egg over the top.

    How To Serve

As I said earlier it's great to pair with my Bibingka Cornbread Loaf, but you can also use it on pandesal or even my Kalabasa Bread.

Salted Egg Butter can also be added to just cooked rice or noodles. It's very versatile. You can even try it on Ensaymada!

    • Cut the frozen egg in half and scoop it out of a shell. Use a grater to grate into the butter that has been placed into a small bowl.
    • Mix well with a spoon until it's nice and creamy and combined. Smooth out the top and grate the top with a bit more of the itlog na maalat.
