Have you ever seen a place on Instagram and thought wow, this place is gorgeous but it's so far away from my life that there is no way I would ever get to see it - ever. That's how I felt every time Sunday Suppers posted something in my feed. Then one day back in May they announced that Aran Goyoaga was going to be teaching a photography workshop in their studio in September. I didn't even think. I just went and bought my place in the workshop. I was so freaking giddy at the thought of meeting Aran of Cannelle et Vanille. I've been pinning her images even way before I was blogging.
After many months of waiting the day finally came and being in the studio with people with the same interests as you is so inspiring and then getting to spend time with one of the people you greatly admire is just mind blowing.
Making Plum Tarts
After a light breakfast of croissants, eggs and yogurt our class started with Aran baking us gluten free Plum Tarts. We got to watch her whole process of cooking, styling and photography and it was so good to see someone at her caliber with the same workflow as myself. She also admitted to studying Donna Hay Magazines to figure out how she composed her photos. I was all me too.. me too..
Around the Studio
Through out the day I found myself wandering around the studio taking photos of little nook and crannies with all the different props and textures. The studio is all white to ensure there is no color pollution when using the space for photography. Did you know that the colors from the buildings through your windows and the clothes you are wearing contribute to what color is cast in your photos? Keep that in mind the next time you snap a shot. If you are looking for that pure white shot then everything around you must be white, white, white!
Pear Frangipane Tart
Our second dessert was a Pear Frangipane Tart that was made with the same dough and filling as the Plum Tart. Aran was able to go to the Union Street Market in NYC to pick up the cutest pears for the tart. They had so much texture and was so beautiful to photograph.
I learned many things about myself on the first day of the workshop and felt more comfortable about my photography.
I can't wait to share day two of the workshop with you all in the next few days.

So jealous! Thanks as well for adding the tip on keeping things all white for that style of photography. Did not realise clothing would also make a difference. Beautiful work.
