For this Ube Boba all you need are 4 ingredients! Instant boba, milk, melted ube ice cream and ice. All you need to do is layer it all up and mix and boom. Boba.
I made this Ube Boba drink in less than 5 minutes and didn't have to drive to a tea shop to drink it.
Is it good that you can now get Boba kits in any American grocery store now? Probably a yes. Back in the day I used to go to a coffee shop down stairs from my office in Singapore and ordered a Boba drink EVERYDAY. Imagine how much sugar I was downing. This was before any white person knew what boba was. I'm thinking early Y2K here.
Now I see European girls walking down Rue Sainte-Anne with their Ube Bobas. Yes you can even get these in Paris! As a Gen-X'er who used to get random racists remarks thrown at me growing up, it's amazing.
Anyway now you can make this at your own home even in a very suburban America. Who knew...
Ingredients
The ingredients list is pretty sparse. Like I said just 4 ingredients.
Instant Boba - I used a packet of instant boba that you can heat up in the microwave. Make sure when you buy instant boba it's from Taiwan. They make it the best, both in chew (QQ - IYKYK) and in ingredient they use.
Milk - Use any kind of milk you like. You will need about ⅔ cup.
Melted Ube Ice Cream - In place of making Ube Milk we are just going to use melted Ube Ice Cream instead. Use the best and by the best I mean Magnoila Brand. You will need ½ cup scooped and then melt it in the microwave for 30 seconds.
Ice - Use as much as you want.
I used this brand called Boba Bam. The ingredients list is top notch. They have different flavors and you can really use any flavor you want. I do like how strawberry mixes with Ube. It's quite good.
How To Make Ube Boba
Add the heated up boba to the bottom of your 16oz glass.
Add ice.
Then pour in half the milk.
You can leave it layered or mix it up like I did. The flavor I used had strawberry jam so it made strawberry milk.
Then pour in the melted ube ice cream into the remaining milk and mix well.
Pour the Ube Milk over the iced mixture.
I mean that is it really. You may have some left over Ube Milk, but you can just use that too top off your Ube Boba. Win win.
