Black Sesame Cherry Galette is the new new you have been waiting for this summer. Both black sesame powder and seeds are used to double up on the flavor.
This Black Sesame Cherry Galette was really born out of both necessity and laziness. A couple of weeks ago we went cherry picking so I had a huge bowl of cherries to use up.
Making mini hand pie’s was the original idea, but I didn’t want to deal with cutting up the dough and scraps. The easiest way to get to what I needed to do was to make a Galette. All you do is roll out the pie dough and spoon the filling inside and fold over the edges. So so simple.
Black Sesame Crust
I happen to have some black sesame latte powder in my pantry from our trip to Japan last year. Yikes! But it’s okay because it lasts a long time. I did find black sesame powder on Amazon that you can use for this recipe.
I added both the powder and whole black sesame seeds in the pie dough, for double the flavor and also added crunch. I used my super awesome vegan pie dough for this recipe with just the black sesame additions.
Cherry Chia Jam
For the filling I made a cherry chia jam. This is what you need to make it:
2 Cups Cherries
1/2 Cup Cherry Juice
1/4 Cup Just Date Syrup
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/8 Teaspoon Almond Extract
Reduce all in a small saucepan and cook for about 10 minutes on medium. Once the cherries start breaking down add in 1 Tablespoon of Chia Seeds. Leave to cool.
Black Sesame Cherry Galette
While putting it together the galette, I actually ran short of the jam, so some fresh blueberries went in to fill in the gaps. It totally worked and complimented all the flavors in the pie so well.
Serve it with some vanilla ice cream and this summer dessert is good to go!
