This Brunch and Baking event was made possible from the kindness of Simple Mills, however all recipes, creative concepts and styling are my own.
Brunch and Baking
About two weeks ago I hosted a very intimate brunch and baking event at my house. It was a gathering of women who simply just wanted to spend some quality time together to get away from the madness of summer even if it was just for a couple of hours.
My brunch guests included Carolina (Minimalize Me), Joanne (GoFitJo), Meg (Meg Sexton Photography), Thuy Mai and Kimberly (Training For Churros).
Baking School
I use the term baking school lightly as the cake decorating was just a fun way to get to know each other more and get an insight to everyone's creative process. I had custom aprons for each of the ladies to wear during the baking school portion of the brunch. As an additional touch I had recipe cards made so that they can try to replicate making the cakes with Simple Mills Cake Mixes and Frosting at home.
What was a joy to see was how different each and every cake turned out. Each was as individual as the woman who decorated the cake.
Brunch
This was our menu for brunch. I am a one woman show during these events so I prepare food that is fast and easy to cook. That is one of the reasons why I love Simple Mills is because they provide me with the shortcuts that I need made with real wholesome ingredients.
I set the table very simply, just a white linen table cloth with beige napkins to give it a modern rustic farmhouse vibe. My most favorite item I came up with were these mini serving board place cards. I ordered these from Amazon thinking that I could use these as serving platters for our mini cakes, but I did not pay attention to the dimensions and when they came they could only fit cut up mini cubes of cheese.
I wanted to use them for the brunch and they were the perfect size for place cards, so I contacted Giulissa from Paper Love Me Calligraphy and she didn't even bat an eye lid when I asked her to create her magic on them.
I know I am saying love many many times in this post, but I can't help it. I will forever remember this day with fondness as we just opened up about many topics around the table. There is something about sitting down and passing around a plate of food that creates community even if it's just for that one moment.
I had many of you send emails and direct messages about this particular event. At the moment they are held quarterly at my home. The guest list is very intimate because I create every detail myself (plus all the cooking!) and I find smaller gatherings elicit deeper conversations.
If you are interested in joining my guest list please subscribe to my blog if you haven't already and I will let you know of future events. Thank you so much for all the good vibes everyone sent to me while this event was taking place. It has given me a sense of direction with my little tiny business venture.
xoxo
p.s. I will be posting a separate article with the recipes I created. Keep an eye out for it!
