    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

All you need for this quick and easy Puto recipe is rice flour, milk, a bit of sugar and a pinch of salt. In 25 minutes you will have a nice bouncy snack cake.

    Puto Recipe

This is literally just a quick and easy Puto recipe.  Puto is a steamed snack cake made from rice flour, coconut milk with a touch of sugar and a pinch of salt.  Adding baking powder will help make it rise during steaming.  It's part of the Kakanin family which you can read more about here.

You can leave it plain or add some cheese on top just before steaming.

Ingredients for Quick and Easy Puto Recipe

    1 Cup Regular Rice Flour
    ¼ Cup Sugar
    1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
    Pinch of Salt
    1 Cup Coconut Milk
¼ Cup Shredded Vegan Cheese (optional)

    How to Make Puto

This makes a small portion. It can make 4 large teacup size cakes, or 6-8 medium ones depending on how shallow your cups are. It can also make 12 mini muffin size cakes as well.

Mix the batter in a small pitcher or bowl.

Spray or coat tea cups with oil and pour in the batter.

    Top with cheese.

Place a rack inside a large pot and place the cups on the rack.  Fill with an inch of water.  Wrap the cover with a kitchen towel so that the steam condensation doesn't drip on the puto.

If using the large to medium cups steam for 20-25 minutes. If using mini muffin cups steam for 15 minutes.

After steaming take the cups out and leave to cool.  Can be eaten warm or at room temperature.
