Buko Shake - Two Ingredients Only!

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Yes! All you need to make this Buko Shake is buko meat and buko juice. The trick is the freeze half of the buko juice so that it doesn't get diluted by ice. There are no added sugars and just pure buko goodness!

This is another variation of my favorite Filipino shakes. Like this mango and grape shake that are just pure fruit and ice.

Buko Shake is so simple and minimal, but also very filling. Which is a good thing as it's filled with good fats from the fresh buko meat and natural electrolytes from the coconut water.

There is some freeze time, that is worth the wait.

    Ingredients

Buko - It's what Filipino's call young coconut. You will need the meat of one young coconut scooped out that has been cut into strips. These are the coconuts that are still green. If you are out in the diaspora, you can find these in the fresh fruit section of your local health food store. Buko can also be found the the frozen section of any Filipino grocery store. If you do use the frozen ones, I recommend to defrost them and wash it out.

Coconut Juice - Use the same juice from the fresh coconut if you have access to it. You will need 2 cups. Otherwise canned or boxed coconut juice is okay to use. Just make sure it is 100% coconut juice with no added sugars or other preservatives.

You will need to freeze 1 cup of the coconut juice first before making the Buko Shake.

I love using this organic brand from Vita Coco as they source the coconut juice from organic farms in the Philippines. So cool!

    How To Make Buko Shake

The process of making a Buko Shake is super simple. Once your coconut juice is completely frozen put everything in a blender - 2 cups of fresh buko strips, 1 cup of coconut water and all the frozen cubes of coconut water that you have made.

Blending all the buko shake ingredients in a blender.

Blend on high for about 2 minutes.

    Just blended

Then pour it into two serving glasses right away.

It's best to drink the Buko Shake right away while it's still nice and cold and slushy like.
